The importance of EV Charge Points in Workplaces

What is the role of Electric Vehicle Charge Points in workplaces on the road to net zero? Plus, BREEAM’s official‘s guidance.

With the return to the workplace beckoning, one of the new trends to emerge for occupiers looking to safer, sustainable methods of travelling to and from workplaces, will likely be a surge in requests for Electric Vehicle Charge Points.

Historically, car parking in basements has been a grim affair - with environments typically being dark, dingey & hostile. However, assets with forward-thinking, vibrant, EV Charging facilities will likely gain an edge over competitor workplaces with stand-out EV platforms, as they start to play an increasingly important role in the decision-making process of occupying, and prospective occupiers of workplaces.

Improving the ‘look and feel’ of an “EV ZONE” is a great way of publicising a workplace’s EV offering to those audiences. But it must be meticulously planned to get it right, first time around. Futureproofing is vital as numbers will need to be scaled up in the future, so product specification + electrical design infrastructure is key to getting off on the right foot.

To gain BREEAM credits, you will only need to ensure that 3% of the total car parking capacity has active EV Charging facilities, but you may wish to add a mixture of “ACTIVE” & “PASSIVE” charge points to ensure you can easily “scale up” when necessary.

Electric Spinach are working with Landlords & Developers across the UK to raise the standard of EV Charging strategies in workplaces and set new industry benchmarks.
