Electric Spinach sets a new benchmark for EV charging in workplaces

The Iconic ‘Walkie Talkie’ Building At 20 Fenchurch Street - essential End of Trip Facilities - Post Covid

Electric Spinach recently engaged with CBRE to lead on an EV Charging strategy for 20 Fenchurch St at the iconic ‘Walkie Talkie’ building.

The brief was to introduce an EV charging strategy for electric motorbikes and scooters which are expected to increase in popularity post COVID-19, as occupiers look to alternative methods of commuting in a bid to avoid public transport. The Walkie Talkie features an adjacent annex, fully equipped with end of trip facilities for the 5000+ individuals that may occupy the building at any one time.

Where Design Meets Functionality

The utility areas of these buildings have seen huge investment. Taking the bland to bold is Electric Spinach’s mission. We look at each client’s needs from a marketing and investment potential. Making the spaces for your EV charging infrastructure stand out from the crowd increases the ‘look and feel’ of the space and powers up the marketability of the end-of-trip facilities. Small amounts within the overall budget can make a huge impact. This is highlighted at 20 Fenchurch Street.

Back End Management Functionality

User-friendly QR codes will enable users to start their day by giving their EV’s a charge. This is particularly helpful for those occupiers who may not have the luxury of charging facilities at their homes, many of which may live in city centre apartments. The back-end management software adds functionality such as billing, multi-tariffs & pre-booking of charging sessions to name a few.

Grant Funding of £14,000.00

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle Charge Points. The government’s workplace grant is paid out by the Department for Transport’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

Grants are available up to £14,000.00.

Electric Spinach are able to assist you throughout the entire process including how to obtain this funding.

Does my business qualify?

  • The WCS grant is available to any business, charity or public sector organisations.

  • It is a requirement to have sufficient off-street parking, and the parking facilities must be clearly associated with your premises. You will need to either hold ownership over the property, or to have consent from the landlord(s) for the installation(s) stated in your application.

  • Whilst you do not need to currently have electric vehicles as part of your fleet, you can clearly demonstrate the current need for charge points (or in the future) to the benefit of your staff, or company fleets, & not necessarily for customer use.

  • Charging stations must be installed by an OZEV registered installer.
