Why organisations change software
Businesses evolve. They may introduce paid charging, fleet management, visitor charging, ESG reporting or multi-site management that their original platform cannot easily support.
Changing software is not the same as replacing hardware
The charger often remains in place whilst the backend management platform changes. The process is similar to changing your broadband provider whilst keeping the same television.
Important considerations
Review hardware compatibility, firmware versions, contracts, user accounts, tariffs, payment systems and operational disruption before migration.
When replacing hardware may be sensible
If chargers are nearing end of life, unsupported or unreliable, replacing hardware and software together may deliver better long-term value.
Questions to ask
Confirm OCPP version, data ownership, reporting improvements, user migration, RFID functionality and future software support before making a decision.
